Our Journey to Winning Family Business of the Year
We are thrilled to announce that NewMed have been awarded ‘Family Business of the Year Kent’ by the Business Awards UK! This recognition is not just a testament to the hard work of the NewMed team, but also a celebration of the values that have guided us through the last 10 years.
Our journey began a decade ago, when Andy (Founder & MD of NewMed) and his girlfriend (now wife) Jade, took a work trip to Australia. During this trip, Andy developed severe stomach pains, leading him to seek Australian hospital care, only to be sent home to the UK with pain meds. After the pain became worse and unbearable. Andy returned to the hospital where he collapsed. Doctors said emergency surgery was necessary, and then the problem was found – a sizable infected lump near his belly button. Despite removal in surgery, the infection kept coming back and the antibiotics he was on were not making much progress in healing it.
After being recommended PEMF to help with the healing processes and pain, Andy obtained a PEMF mat. Although initially uncertain as he couldn’t feel anything, he used the mat twice daily, with 20-minute sessions. By the end of the week, Andy had discontinued pain meds his infection had healed, and surgical scars were beginning to improve over the following months.
It was after this experience that Andy knew he wanted to make PEMF more accessible and better known across the UK.
Alongside his wife Jade, and sister-in-law Grace, NewMed Ltd was created, with support from Andy’s other family business, Bedfont Scientific, which is run by his brother Jason Smith. Together, this close-knit family has worked tirelessly to bring the benefits of PEMF therapy to the UK, helping countless individuals improve their health and wellbeing.
Over the years, our team has expanded beyond our immediate family to include a dedicated group of professionals who share our vision and values. This extended “family” has played a crucial role in our success, contributing their passion and commitment to our mission. As well as expanding the team, we have expanded our product range, created a range of education techniques such as blogs, podcasts, and online courses, and have even developed and created our own PEMF device, CELLER8, that ticks all the boxes.
Winning the ‘Family Business of the Year Kent’ Award is a significant milestone for us. It reaffirms our commitment to our mission and the values that we hold dear – integrity, innovation, and a deep care to help improve health and wellness routines across our community and the UK. We are immensely proud of our team and grateful to our customers, whose trust and support have been integral to our success.
